Combi boiler
Your hot water comes on demand, so Hive just runs the heating. This is the heating-only version.
Cosy Control installs Hive smart thermostats across Belfast and Greater Belfast. We check your boiler and wiring, fit the right Hive kit, set up the app with you and show you how it works before we leave.
We check your boiler, the wiring at your old programmer and your Wi-Fi before you spend anything.
Heating-only for a combi boiler, or Heating and Hot Water if you have a tank. We tell you exactly which one to buy.
It plugs into your router and unlocks the full app: schedules, boosts and location-based control.
It replaces your old programmer and is wired, powered up and tested with your boiler.
Placed where it reads the room properly, not beside a radiator or in direct sun.
We connect everything to your phone, set your schedules together and show you how it all works.
Hive comes in two versions, and getting the right one matters. We check on the survey so you don’t have to work it out.
Your hot water comes on demand, so Hive just runs the heating. This is the heating-only version.
Hive schedules your hot water as well as your heating, so the tank is only heated when you need it.
Hive radiator valves replace the valves on your radiators, so each room gets its own schedule. Add them all at once or one room at a time.
We look at your boiler and the wiring at your existing programmer or wiring centre, check your Wi-Fi reaches where it needs to, and agree where the thermostat should go. You get a clear quote before any work starts.
With the power isolated, we take out your old programmer and wire the Hive receiver in its place, then test the boiler fires properly. The Hive Hub goes on your router.
The thermostat is fitted at the agreed spot (or set on a stand), paired with the receiver and hub, and checked against the room temperature.
We set up the Hive app on your phone, build your heating (and hot water) schedules with you, and show you boosts and holiday settings before we leave.
Hive fitting starts from £75, plus the cost of the Hive kit itself. We don’t sell the equipment; we tell you exactly what to buy. The total depends on which version you need, whether you add radiator valves, and how your boiler and wiring are set up. The survey is free and you get a clear quote before any work starts.
At home, Hive heats the house before you get up and stops when everyone’s out. In a small shop, office or café it can follow your opening hours, so you’re not paying to heat an empty building overnight. See smart heating for businesses.
Got underfloor heating? That’s a job for Heatmiser. See our thermostats for underfloor heating.
Some people do, but it means working with mains-voltage wiring at your boiler. Hive itself says you need to be competent with electrical wiring and recommends using an experienced tradesperson. If the wiring isn’t right, your heating or hot water may not work.
A Hive receiver is wired in where your old programmer was and switches the boiler on and off. The thermostat talks to the receiver wirelessly, and the Hive Hub on your router links it all to the app.
For the full app, yes. Without the hub you lose features such as creating schedules in the app, boosts and location-based control, so we’d always recommend it.
Usually on an inside wall in the room you use most, at about head height, and away from radiators, direct sunlight, kitchens and draughts. Anything that heats or cools the thermostat itself will throw off the reading.
No. Hive sells a stand, so the thermostat can sit on a shelf or table instead. That’s handy if the best spot in the room doesn’t have a wall you want to fix to.
Hive works with most gas, LPG and oil boilers in Northern Ireland homes, combi and conventional. Combi boilers take the heating-only version. We confirm your boiler and wiring on the free survey.
